Cleaning your carpets
By using a decent carpet cleaner, you can eradicate years of dust and grime from your flooring. There are various methods for doing this, but a steam carpet cleaner is one of the most popular methods for this. When considering whether or not your carpet requires a clean, you should inspect your carpet for stains and marks that are tough to remove with conventional cleaning, but also think about the age of the carpet. If it has not been cleaned for years, it might be worth considering a thorough spring clean.
A build up of dust in the carpet can also be bad for your health, with dust mites aggravating some individuals with asthma for example. Therefore it is important to use a high quality carpet cleaner to remove all of the dust mites and maintain a healthy living environment. If you have a stubborn stain like red wine for example, a tip is to clean as much of the stain out of the carpet with blotting paper and give the affected area a run over with the steam cleaner. If the stain still remains try pouring a little white wine over the area, allow it to soak and then repeat the process.
Also remember that once a carpet has been cleaned, you should avoid walking on the damp area. The residual moisture in the pile can become mouldy, which is why an extended period of drying is necessary to prevent this. More often than not, a small domestic carpet cleaner is sufficient for most homes. A larger cleaning machine may be required for larger areas, but these can often be quite cumbersome to use. Instead, consider renting a carpet cleaner from your local hire shop over the weekend.

I spilt red wine on my carpet and found the only way to get the stain out was to use a carpet cleaner.
They are probably worth the hire, and you can get them quite easily from a local store.
